The young learners in The Literacy & Learning Center's Pre-K program recently celebrated a significant achievement: publishing their book, "When I Grow Up to be Big Me." This heartwarming project saw each child take on the roles of both author and illustrator, contributing two unique pages to the collaborative work.

After weeks of anticipation, the book finally returned from the publisher, prompting a special celebration at the Center on Friday, March 28. The event brought together the budding authors, their proud friends, and their delighted families for a memorable occasion.

Adding a touch of imaginative flair to the celebration, the children enthusiastically dressed up as the professionals they aspire to be when they grow older. The array of costumes showcased the diverse dreams held within the Pre-K classroom, from doctors and firefighters to artists and teachers.

The highlight of the event was the book presentation itself. Each child had the opportunity to stand before the audience and proudly share what they had dictated for their two pages. With varying confidence and adorable enthusiasm, they described their chosen careers and the imaginative scenarios they had brought to life through their words and illustrations. It was a touching display of their burgeoning literacy skills and individual creativity.

Following the formal presentation, the celebration continued with a reception. Attendees enjoyed refreshments while congratulating the young authors on their outstanding accomplishments. The air was filled with pride and excitement as families and friends admired the newly published book, a tangible testament to the hard work and collaborative spirit of TL&LC's Pre-K program. "When I Grow Up to be Big Me" served as a beautiful reminder of the power of early literacy and the boundless potential within each young child.

Pre-K Director Carolyn Middlebrooks shared her pride in the students' achievement,

stating, "This book is a beautiful culmination of our Pre-K students' hard work and imagination. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they shared their stories and dreams with their families. This project highlights early literacy's power and the incredible potential within each child."
